Important Facts Concerning Schnauzer Puppies

Schnauzer is a certain breed of dog that originated from Germany in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The term schnauzer means snout in the German language and it colloquially means moustache. The dog is distinctively bearded on its snout, which is why it is called by that name. The breed lacks the typical terrier temperament, which makes it to be considered a terrier-type dog. Schnauzer puppies can be purchased from any breeder around the world.

This dog consists of three major kinds of breeds, that is, the miniature, standard, and the giant. Terms such as teacup and toy are used to market undersized miniature breeds. However, toy and teacup are not breeds of the dog. It is good to know these facts because many people are often confused about the various breeds of schnauzers.

The original breed and the modern-day Standard breed are the same in size. The development of the original breed was so that they could act as yard and guard canines. They also caught rats in homes and farms. The original breed was interbred with other breeds to produce the miniature breed. Poodles and affenpinscher were some of the breeds crossbred with the original breed to form the miniature breed. Others were also used.

Dogs that are referred to as miniatures are those that rise to a height of 30 centimeters at the shoulder and weigh between 6.4 and 9.1 kilograms. They have high levels of intelligence and energy. According to the American Kennel Club, also abbreviated as AKC, they vary in color a lot. Some of the recognized coat colors are black, silver, and pepper. They may have a single color or a combination of various colors.

The American Kennel Club does not accept dogs that have white or multi-colored coats as miniatures. Compared to giant and standard breeds, miniatures are weaker and should not live outside. They are very loyal to the owners. They befriend almost everybody and have rarely been seen being aggressive to strangers. However, they never hesitate to bark at strange people and animals.

The shoulders of Standard schnauzers stand around 1.5 feet from the ground and they weigh 14-20 kg. They are guarding dogs. In history, they have served as messengers in wars and in policing. The Red Cross organization has used them extensively for various applications.

Giant schnauzers grow up to a height of 61 centimeters at the shoulders. They weigh between 25 and 36 kilograms and are used as working dogs too. Their development was done in Swabia during the 17 century. Its development involved crossbreeding the standard schnauzers and various breeds including black Great Danes, German Shepherds, Boxers, Thuringian Shepherds, Rottweillers, Dobermans, and Bouvier des Flandres.

When one wants to acquire a puppy, they should locate authentic breeders. Illegitimate breeders are filling the industry that is can be hard to find a good puppy. A veterinarian can help in the process of identifying healthy puppies.
