Choosing Royal Standard Poodle Breeders

By Miranda Sweeney

When an individual decides it is time to get a new pet, it might be very beneficial to do a little research on the subject, especially if wanting to acquire a pure bred canine, to find just the right match for one's personal situation and living conditions. It is best to choose a dog who has a temperament that compliments the owner's, and who has grooming, health and attention needs that are within one's comfort range. Allergy sufferers who want an a larger sized, very affectionate companion may find what they desire from royal standard poodle breeders.

This breed has a regal background and is considered highly desired. Though no one can definitely identify their origin, the AKC labels them to be of German descent. They have a number of super positive attributes that make these dogs great hunting companions, talented performers, loving family pets and sanitary indoor animals.

According to the AKC, there are only three types of pups in this breed and they are the toys, the miniatures and the standards. When dogs are referred to as royals, it is an unofficial way to say that their height and weight is larger than normally accepted for show, and when called teacups, they are extremely small. Because of their extreme sizes, the tiny and giant versions are more susceptible to encounter issues with their bone strength, hip dislocation and heart conditions.

Royals can stand about thirty inches high at the withers and weigh in excess of eighty pounds when full grown. On average, a healthy dog of this type lives to be twelve years old, or older. Their appearance is one of aristocratic beauty and its distinctive shape is easily recognized by people all around the world.

Excluding the legs, neck and skull, this breed has a squared off appearance when placed in showing stance, as the body has the same measurements for both height and length. The head is roundish, featuring beautiful and very dark oval shaped eyes set in a wide stance, as well as a muzzle that is long and tapered. The ears tend to hang loosely at the sides and are flat and silky.

Unlike many other breeds whose legs tend to be either very long or really short, poodles have appendages that are directly proportionate to the size of their bodies. The line of their backs are very straight and level, showing no dips, slopes or arches as commonly found in other dogs. The tails are very stiff and are held upright like a flag at all times.

Their coat has an uniquely identifiable, sheepish appearance that is nearly always of a single solid color. The fur closely resembles human hair, continuously grows and does not shed. As an indoor pet this unusual feature makes them very neat and great for people with allergies, however, it also requires them to be groomed regularly.

They have a reputation for being easily trained, highly intelligent and able to understand a great many words. Regular exercise is a must to maintain their calm disposition, though they are known to be wonderful with children, adults and other household pets. Poodles very affectionate, consider any humans they interact with regularly to be part of their pack and are fiercely loyal and endlessly devoted.
