Give Your Child A Great Gift From The Selection Of Ragdoll Kittens For Sale

By Etta Bowen

One of the greatest gifts you can give your child is to teach him or her values such as responsibility and compassion. An easy way to do this is with the help of a pet. If your child is still young, a large dog may be too much but a cat is a good choice since it's so low maintenance. There is a good selection of ragdoll kittens for sale and these balls of fluff are the perfect companion for any child.

The ragdoll is a relatively new breed. Purebreds normally have striking blue eyes and they can come in a variety of colors. They're fluffy but don't shed much, so you won't have cat hairs covering everything. They're also quite big and sturdy.

Because it's so big and fluffy, your child will want to cuddle the ragdoll. What's great about this breed is that it will not only allow this but will even love being picked up. Some cats may even go limp in your child's arms. It's an affectionate and gentle, docile cat that makes a great playmate and night-time companion.

Before you bring your kitten home, you need to create a safe environment for it. Prepare a separate room so the kitten won't be overwhelmed by suddenly being in a large, unfamiliar environment. It's a good idea to get two kittens so they have one another to play with as well, especially if you already have older pets that might not like being bothered by playful young ones. Remove anything that might be a hazard, such as cords that they can get tangled up in, as well as anything you don't want them to knock over.

Just like a small child, a kitten needs extra nutrients to encourage healthy growth. Most pet food manufacturers have products especially for kittens to fulfill their dietary needs. Any cat will also enjoy fresh fish, chicken or meat as a treat. Be sure to provide sufficient clean and fresh water too. Don't give your kitten cow's milk, since this will upset its stomach.

Your kitten will also need a litter box. Letting it do its bathroom business outside isn't always a good idea, because dogs and traffic can be hazards and your kitten can also wander off and get lost. Find a litter box with low sides so that it's easy for a tiny cat to get into it. The litter itself should be fine and preferably unscented.

If you don't want to breed your cats, let the vet spay or neuter them as soon as possible. Remember that cats can start reproducing when they're about six months old. Male cats that haven't been neutered can become a problem because they will spray in your house and will want to wander off for days on end.

If you simply want a pet rather than a show cat, you may want to considering adopting a rescue cat. Animal shelters often have kittens needing a loving home and older cats deserve a chance too. Some shelters may even specialize in breeds like the ragdoll.
