Why Take CPR Certification Courses

By Jana Serrano

CPR as known to many is an abbreviation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation which is a technique used for life saving in emergency situations whereby ones heart stops beating or one cannot breathe. Some of these situations may be like when has been rescued from drowning or when one is having a heart attack. For this and other emergencies, CPR certification courses are very handy as they give one they know how of how to do in such a situation.

The bad thing about an emergency is that it finds you off guard and all one can do is just make preparation and hopefully be ready to handle it. For instance, since one cannot predict that their house will catch fire, buying fire extinguishers and putting in place some protective measure is the only best way to remain safe.

The same should be done to CPR as it is an indispensable skill that people ought to have as they do not know when it will be handy as someones life maybe dependent on them. Taking these classes does not require a lot and its not even hard but at least one should make the effort of mastering these techniques the right way otherwise one may end up doing more harm to the victim than good during the resuscitation.

Nowadays, sitting through 6 or more hours classes is no longer the only option for getting certified for this course as the internet has brought the availability of online certification that is easier and more convenient. This gives people the freedom to take the course in the comfort of their homes and at their convenient time which has made it easier for more people to take up the course.

Other options include corporate training whereby organizations that are certified to do the training go around in workplaces training employees which is somewhat easier than doing it on your own as one get to do as part of work and does not have to spare time for it. Also, the company gets to take care of the expenses that come with taking this course which is an added advantage.

Some people tend to think just because they have resuscitated a couple of people they are equipped as nurses which is a misconception that may risk the lives of others. This should only be regarded as a way of buying physicians time before they get to the emergency scene by trying to keep the victim alive or otherwise it will be useless to take them to hospital once they cease breath breathing.

Among the techniques taught include mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, performing chest compressions and checking pulses to determine if one has normal heartbeats and whether they are breathing. Timing is crucial in this exercise as it affect how the pumping and blowing is done; one ought to gives 30 pumps after 2 mouth-to-mouth blows.

With the increased rate of people getting diagnosed with lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, heart complications, and stroke, there is the need for more people to take up these courses in order to help out in saving lives as at this rate a lot of people will be needing these resuscitations every now and then.
