A Guide To Online First Aid Certification

By Jordan Schmidt

According to statistics available, around thirty percent of people have been in situations where one or more people was in need of first aid. When such situations happen, most people do not how to proceed and it may cost lives when such urgent is needed but not given or available. Online first aid certification is therefore, important for everyone in order to save lives.

The curriculum may comprise of several elements. The most basic is CPR classes available to the general public. There also basic life support classes, AED, Emergency Medical Response and administering emergency oxygen mostly undertaken by health providers. At the very minimum, an individual should know how to help a person in need of medical help until healthcare providers get to the location.

Another study item taught in these classes is how to stop bleeding. When someone hurts themselves with a knife or sharp instrument or basically, any accidents, they bleed. If the bleeding is not stopped, depending on the severity, they may bleed to death. Applying pressure in the right way may help stop or reduce the bleeding until help arrives which is a basic procedure that anyone can perform.

Basic first aid also teaches one to perform CPR in cases where a patient is not able to breathe. In instances where an individual drowns, water fills the lungs and he or she cannot breathe. Also, as a result of other complications, an individuals breathing may be limited or strained. Other things taught in the class include how to help in birthing and also ways to help in case of a disaster.

The certification program also teaches how to help victims of fire and accidents. During a fire, one should help everyone to safety. He or she should also know how to stop the fire on burning victims without hurting anyone else and secure their safety and lives until emergency teams arrive. After accidents, victims should be stabilized to ensure that no further damage occurs.

Online classes are less expensive and some of them are free of charge. In addition, they are flexible and one can take them at their convenience. There are three types of classes depending on the skill; beginner level, intermediate level and advanced level. The levels differ in the level of safety information taught.

Everyone is welcome in these classes. School going children and adults, corporate teams and emergency responders as well as individuals are encouraged to enrol. There are classes for younger children just as there are for adults. Upon request, classes may be custom tailored to fit the safety needs of a particular workplace or school or workplace team. Lastly, students sit for both theory lectures and practical.

After successful completion of a class, one is issued a certificate. Although the validity of the document may vary, most are valid for only two years. After expiry, one is required to apply for a refresher training and recertification. It is important for everyone to learn how to carry out basic procedures to save lives.
