The Value Of Ceramic Window Tint

By Aimee Schwartz

Glass windows are coated with tints on the inside for various reasons. If used in homes or office buildings, this may help to keep them cool in hot summer months and provide privacy. In vehicles, tints are used to reduce heat and glare, lower interior temperatures, provide privacy, may offer a more stylish appearance and more. A ceramic window tint is available that costs more than some other options but the benefits it offers usually overcomes any hesitation over extra cost.

These products consist of two sheets of polyester but it is what lies between these sheets that differentiates them. This may be metal, dye, ceramic or even a combination of materials. Each materials has certain benefits and disadvantages. For example, metallic film does not offer as much protection and tends to cause interference with radio signals. When dyes are used, discoloration is a common problem. Both of these problems are no longer experienced with a ceramic product.

One of the advantages of using ceramic material is that it is non-reflective. This means that visibility is clearer and there is less glare. Its non-reflective quality also means that the appearance is not shiny such as when metal is used and the glass does not appear much darker than before the film was applied. All states have regulations regarding the tints used on windows of vehicles and installers should be aware of these.

One of the main reasons for installing tints in vehicles is to keep the interior cool on hot days. The film blocks out visual and infrared rays and certain products are better at doing this than others. Some block the rays very effectively, keeping the interior comfortably cool at all times. In homes, buildings and vehicles this can reduce the need for air-conditioning.

The damage caused by UV rays has become a cause of concern. This is why finding a product that effectively blocks out these UV rays, preventing them from damaging the skin, is important. UV rays can also cause damage to interiors of vehicles by discoloring fabric, making the dashboard blotchy and even making leather seats hard so that they crack.

Common complaints are experienced when using inferior quality tints. Fading, discoloration, bubbling, cracking and loss of adhesion are some of these. When using a higher quality film, these negative effects are rarely experienced and products often come with a lifetime warranty.

A superior product will cost more but it may prove to be cost effective in the long run due to its strength, durability and efficiency. Such products are also safer due to their superior strength. They are even able to keep keep shattered glass together, increasing safety.

There are so many different tints available, made of a range of materials and coming in various colors. Cost of installation will vary according to which type chosen, the surface to which it will be applied and the expertise of an installer. Choosing an inferior quality product can be counterproductive. A high quality one ensures great effectiveness as well as durability.
