By Tanisha Berg

Water plug is a device used for protection measure and source of water provided in most urban and suburban centers to help extinguish flames. It is connected to tap in water from the main source. The user usually attaches a hose pipe and a valve to the device to enable a powerful flow of water in order to put of the flames. They are of different sizes depending on customer needs. Enrolling for fire hydrant training courses is vital.

The size of the hose, pump and the location of the plug determines the pressure of water. Users use pumps to enable increase water pressure and split water into multiple streams that is used in different points. One should be careful when connecting and disconnecting water plug because it can damage hose pipes and valuable equipment.

A hose line is fixed to the plug to ensure that it remains high and heavy. The charged hose line is usually stiff. This makes it hard for it to take turns once pressurized by that water. The hose may also be positioned well by the water pressure in case it is unobstructed. Rubber and threads are used in the connection of the hose to avoid leakage of water.

This equipment has valves which can be opened and closed fully. These valves prevent throttling of water. Before opening the main valve, ensure that the hose has been fully attached. This is especially if the valve has been connected to a truck or if it has a gate valve.

One is expected to wear protective clothing when putting off flames. You should wear gloves and a helmet with face shield to ensure safety. If there is high pressure aging and corroding the plug it can easily injure bystanders and the person extinguishing flames. The law prohibits parking cars few meters within the operation area.

Yellow or red paints are used on the curbs to indicate regions that one should not park the car.
