Raw Food Diet For Dogs Recipes For Healthy Pets

By Krystal Branch

For most animals, just like human beings, raw foods may be more beneficial than processed foods. Consider changing your pet's diet and going natural, rather than feeding your pet store bought foods. This will help to enhance the overall health of your dog. You will see evidence of this by noting improved energy levels and shinier coats and teeth when examining your dog. Trying out various raw food diet for dogs recipes will help you find the right meal plan for your pet.

Determine the right amount of food to feed your dog. You can do this by having your dog weighed. For bigger pets, their daily meal should not exceed three percent of their body weight. For smaller pets, their meal plan should not exceed ten percent of their body weight. However, note that each dog is unique, so you may need to observe it to know whether it is getting enough to eat. You can adjust the daily meal ration as you deem appropriate.

Ideally, a dog should be fed two times a day. Try to have regular meal times. Allowing ample time between meal times helps in proper digestion. You can feed the dog once in the morning and once in the evening. Remember to avail drinking water for the dog.

Try and find fresh ingredients to use. This mostly includes different kinds of meats, both red meat and white meats. Organ meats and tripe are quite nutritious and should be added to the diet. You can freeze any extra meats for later use. Try and stick to one kind of meat for sometime, until the dog gets used to it. You can tell this by observing its poop. If the poop is small and firm, you can then add a second source of protein and proceed to add a third when the dog's poop is okay.

Even though it is not a must, you can also feed your dog some veggies and fruits. Just make sure to boil the veggies for a short time before feeding them to your dog. This will help to soften the veggies, to make them easier to digest. Veggies and fruits should only form a minor portion of the meal. Protein should make up a larger percentage of the meal.

There are some foods which are not recommended for a dog to eat. This includes chicken bones that have been cooked. It is okay to feed them raw bones from chicken and other animals. However, try not to give them too many bones and always monitor them when they are eating.

To find it easier to feed your dog a healthy meal on a regular basis, you need to plan in advance. Buy the foods ahead of time and store them in your freezer. Come up with a meal plan, so that you know what your dog is supposed to eat each day.

You may need to try out several options before you find the most suitable raw food diet for dogs recipes. Experiment and observe how your dog reacts to various foodstuff. You can talk to your vet and get suggestions on the healthier options to consider.
