Selecting The Right Cavachon Dog Breeder

By Ryan Burns

Even with the usually high purchase price, it can be a thrilling prospect to get a puppy that belongs to a designer breed. The animal's behavior, health and overall quality may be greatly affected by the place in which they are born and cared for. This is why both the pet and the potential owner will benefit when only a reputable Cavachon dog breeder is utilized in Minneapolis, MN.

The AKC does not list these pups as a pure breed as they are a blending of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise. They fall under the categorization of designer dogs because they came about through the purposeful intent of creating canines who exemplify certain physical and behavioral traits. These in particular are highly desired for their impressive intelligence, gentle nature and allergy friendly coats.

They are on the low end of the mid range as far as size is concerned. As adults, they typically reach a height of between 12-16 inches and generally weigh 10-20 pounds. Their appearance is an adorable mixture of the two parent breeds, giving them a sporty frame and overly large and incredibly expressive eyes that most find irresistible.

The coats of this breed may be either silky with a slight wave, or it could be loosely curled. Typical coloring is basically white with splotches of black, sable or red, though they frequently also come out as a solid hue or a combination of three. Shedding is minimal, as is dander production, both traits that make them attractive options for people with pet allergies.

They make wonderful companion as they are affectionate, lovable and can bark protectively, although actual aggression is not their style. If properly socialized when young, they tend to adjust well to children and fellow pets. Though they are very intelligent and have a playful nature, they also need lots of attention and may behave badly if left alone for an extended length of time.

Making it a point to learn about the individual breeding the dogs is one way to better one's chances of purchasing a puppy that is healthy and of quality stock. They should have a clear reputation as one who treats their animals in a loving and humane fashion without housing them in cages when not in service. The canines could be negatively affected if not given the time and space to socialize and exercise.

When checking out the litter, request to see both of the parents. This serves multiple purposes such as being able to observe their personality traits, their physical demeanor and appearance, as well as their general health. By viewing the sire and the dame, both of whom should be well mixed, one can get a fair idea of how the puppies will look when grown, as well as character aspects that may have been passed down to them.

Interested individuals need to carefully observe the facility for cleanliness, particularly the areas where the animals are living. Consider whether there is ample space where the adults and their young could have played and exercised, as well as the activity levels of the puppies. These can be important breeding and proper care indicators.
