What You Should Know Before Visiting TICA Ragdoll Breeders

By Della Monroe

Cats are a great household pet and companion, and you may have already decided to get one as a new owner or one who may want to to try a different breed of cat. More likely than not you interest could have been titillated by several TICA ragdoll breeders signs that you have seen. Please do read on in this article to give you some information before adopting or buying this feline breed.

The ragdoll got its name due to its unique characteristic of becoming limp and relaxed when being picked up, hence the term ragdoll. The cat can become quite large as an adult male can reach up to twenty pounds while the female can reach up to fifteen pounds. These cats have muscular girths and come in a variety of colors such as cream, red, blue, lilac, chocolate and seal. However, they all have the characteristic blue eyes and soft velvety coats.

Although they make good or even great companions at home, they are vulnerable. You must be vigilant at all times to keep them safe as they are easily attracted to strangers and other animals, being very trusting and attention seeking creatures. They should be kept indoors most of their natural lives due to this characteristic of theirs.

Grooming this breed is challenging although they do love water, thus it will not be difficult to give them a bath once in a while. As they are one of the largest, if not the largest long haired domestic cat breeds, they will need a lot of attention in terms of regular brushing to prevent matting. They will also be prone to hairballs getting stuck in their throats due to their constant licking of their fur. Be prepared to have a lot of fur around the house during spring, the time that they shed off their winter coats.

Regular brushing, at least twice a week, is most advantageous also. This will ensure even distribution of essential oils thought the coat and epidermal layers, thus ensuring a healthy and shiny coat. Apart from this, regular brushing rituals also strengthen the bond between you and your pet

Due to its amicable nature, one should be used to having this breed follow him or her around the whole day as the case may be. It will always seek for attention and try to cuddle or snuggle up to you when able. They are also great with kids as they tend to use their paws instead of claws when playing and grasping things.

An additional advantage to having this breed is that they are fairly long lived. Given the right care and loving home, they can live up to fifteen and twenty years on average. As mentioned earlier, they should be kept indoors all the time so as to avoid accidents and infections

Being one of the more docile cat breeds out there, you cannot go wrong in your choice of the ragdoll. This is as long as you take all the necessary precaution and care in its upkeep and welfare.
