By Iva Cannon

It is amazing to have a pet beside you. Your pet will be the most loyal companion you can have in your life. They can be a source of comfort for you when you are in a slump. While they can give you their companionship, you, in return, should take care of them properly. You have to be a responsible owner to them.

There are various dangers that these animal companions can face. In rare occasions, they might get bitten by ophidians, otherwise known as snakes. You have to immediately apply proper treatment in such emergencies to save your canine pet's life. To save your dog bit by snake San Diego, here are the best tips that you can use.

First, it is a must to get a vaccine for the pet who got bitten. The vaccine exists to help reduce the effects of the bite. It is made from the reptile's venom so it should significantly reduce the poisonous effect to the bitten pet. While it may not completely eliminate the fatal venom, it can delay the effect significantly.

You have to make the pets wear the right leash when you are walking them. It makes it easier for you and your pet to avoid this poisonous animal when you put them on their six-foot leash instead of other alternatives like the flexi-lead. It is said that majority of those bitten by snakes are those that are off-leash or on flexi-lead.

There are areas during the walk that you should avoid. You have to avoid those dense bushes and rocky areas. Grassy areas are also not good for your walk. After all, these are places that most snakes hide at. You have to follow the proper trail and choose wide roads instead of brush-bordered trails when walking.

Snake-proof the yard. While most of the pet owners think about fencing the yard to keep their dogs safely in, that is not enough to keep the ophidians out. You should fortify it so that the snakes do not get under the fencing. You can install a solid cement base or even use hardware cloth along the base to fortify the fencing against snakes.

You have to know what symptoms can be seen when the pets get bitten. When the pets get bitten, you can get alerted through symptoms such as punctures and the likes. When you see these symptoms, you can give proper first-aid treatment. More than that, you can immediately visit the veterinarian without delays.

If you and your canine pet encounter the ophidian, you should not panic immediately lest you make your pet nervous as well. Instead of panicking, you should calmly and slowly back away from it until you are no longer within its striking distance. Carefully leave the area. If you can see one reptile here, there are likely to be more there.

In the case when your pet has been unfortunately bitten, then you should carry your pet to the car. If it struggles, then just walk it to the car. You have to lessen the activity that the bitten pet does to prevent to further circulation of the venom. Go to the veterinarian immediately to get your bitten pet treated.
