Beyond The Beach: Maui's Top Four Adventures

By Ella Hemmings

While all the Hawaiian islands have their charms, Maui offers an abundance of fun activities for travelers. While you might expect to spend your vacation days at the beach, there are plenty of other options to consider that will help you really get to know this island and create some beloved memories.

1. Take A Morning Hike To Haleakala

Long ago, Haleakala erupted and created a huge crater. Today this volcano, located at 10,000 feet elevation in Haleakala National Park, is one of the top destinations for travelers to Maui. If you are planning to visit the crater, consider getting up around 3 a.m. and driving to the park and arriving prior to sunrise. Once you reach the top, you can watch as a night sky filled with stars transforms into a glorious sunrise. After the amazing sunrise, spend a few hours hiking around the crater, which is fascinating and the largest dormant volcano on Earth.

2. Find Your Way To Hana

When it comes to visiting the tiny hamlet of Hana, the trip is more about the journey than the destination. This little seaside town has fewer than 1,300 residents and is accessible only by State Highway 360, otherwise known as the Hana Highway. While it's only about 45 miles from the town of Paia (where one typically begins the journey) to Hana, this is a trip that easily can take 10 or more hours. The road is windy and narrow with many one-lane bridges. The scenery is spectacular and you can stop at various places to enjoy the view, hike to a waterfall or swim in the ocean. If you want to really enjoy the journey, you can book a hotel stay in Hana and then drive to and from the town at your leisure.

3. Enjoy The Island From A Different Perspective

While you might think that it's enough to simply enjoy the sea views or perhaps take in the view of the island from Haleakala, there are also some pretty great views of Maui when you go out on the open ocean. A whale watching tour, a sunset boat cruise or even a kayaking trek are great ways to get a look at the Maui coastline from the sea.

4. Tie The Knot

Couples flock to Maui every year in search of romance, and what could be more romantic than enjoying a Maui wedding or perhaps a vow renewal? Surprisingly, a destination wedding can be very affordable, especially since you typically have a small guest list. Your reception costs are greatly reduced because you simply don't have as many guests to accommodate. In addition, a wedding planner definitely is a necessity but this service means you don't have to handle all those pesky wedding details.

If you wish to get married or renew your vows in Maui, a wedding planning service such as Love Maui Weddings can be a great help. They can plan and prepare for virtually any size wedding, and you can choose to hold your wedding at the beach, at a historic chapel, at a luxury resort, a historic plantation or another scenic spot. This Maui wedding planning service also offers several wedding packages to consider, which truly makes the whole process a snap.
